Phuket air quality still good, assures health official

PHUKET: The Phuket Provincial Public Health (PPHO) Office has maintained that the air quality across the island is “healthy”, despite a light haze covering the island and a government agency under the Pollution Control Department reporting a red ‘Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups’ warning with PM2.5 reading of 149 at Chalong Circle this morning (Jan 22)

SET sinks below 1,500 points after bank sell-offs, drop in foreign inflows

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Index closed at 1,497.88 on Friday, down 15.63 points or 1.03 per cent. Total transactions amounted to Bt96.69 billion with an index high of 1,518.05 and a low of 1,494.45.

LONDON (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Friday the new English variant of COVID-19 may be associated with a higher level of mortality although he said evidence showed that both vaccines being used in the country are effective against it.

QIXIA, China (Reuters) - The 10 known survivors trapped since a deadly Jan. 10 gold mine explosion in northern China have been using laser pointers and loudspeakers to try to find their missing colleagues, state media reported on Friday.

LONDON (Reuters) - Four men were given long jail sentences on Friday for the manslaughter of 39 Vietnamese men, women and children who suffocated to death in a stifling, airtight shipping container in October 2019 as they were being smuggled into Britain.

PHUKET: Marine life experts took one of the dolphins found stranded on mud in Pha Khlok yesterday into care today (Jan 22), while the search continued for the smaller male dolphin believed to be the dolphin’s offspring.

Warmer weather with fog forecast for upper Thailand

The Thailand Meteorological Department said on Saturday that a weak high-pressure system covers upper Thailand while westerly winds prevail over the upper North. Temperature is expected to rise 1-3 degrees Celsius with morning fog and thick fog in some areas.

Ministry defers land and building tax collection for two months
