webfact
Anutin calls on hospitals to get ready for first batch of Covid-19 vaccines By The Nation Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul Thailand's public health system is getting ready to inoculate people once the first batch of 50,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines arrives early next month, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said. Anutin reportedly held a video conference with the ministry’s senior officials and chiefs of public and private hospitals on Monday to inform them about preparations for the first phase of vaccinations. Dr Sophon Mekthon, chairman of a subcommittee managing Covid-19 inoculations, said private and public medical staff in the frontline will be the first to be vaccinated, especially in high-risk zones like Samut Sakhon, Bangkok, Tak’s Mae Sot district and deep South. He said that once the first batch arrives, it will take two weeks to distribute and inoculations can begin in the third week. Experts have been tasked with deciding whether all 50,000 doses will be used as first shots or if some will be kept behind to use as boosters. Two doses of the vaccine inoculated within four to 12 weeks are required for effective immunisation. Medical staff can volunteer for inoculations by registering on the “MorPromp” application by February 12. The ministry is also seeking an appropriate channel for members of the public to register for the vaccine. Sophon said Anutin has insisted that Covid-19 immunisation should be delivered on a fair and transparent basis. Separately, Sophon Iamsirithavorn, deputy director-general of the Department of Disease Control, said initially some 7,000 private and public medical staff working on the frontline will be inoculated followed by some 1,000 related staff working in high-risk areas. He said also under consideration are some 100,000 people who may develop severe symptoms or even die if infected. Sophon added that next week, 2.5 million syringes will be distributed to hospitals, adding that there is sufficient supply as syringes are locally produced. ThailandRyan
Get ready Hospitals, we will roll out what's left of, if any, of the 50,000 injections, after we inoculate all of the MOPH workers, then those that are Frontline, and then all of those in the Government,....hmmm on better thought we may have more for you to distribute in the future. Sorry, I "Anutin" did not really think this through before I spoke...so 25,000 injections while we hold back the rest for the second shot, Oh well Edited January 26, 2021 by ThailandRyan
newnative
2.5 million syringes but only a tiny amount of vaccine--which is still taking 2 weeks to distribute. What's to 'get ready for'??? Slow, slow, slow all around.

internationalism
looks, like they are also not sure, when the rest 100k will be arriving. they think that they might not arrive before 12 weeks gap, which is max for the booster dose. that is why they would be withholding distribution of the whole lot. there are minimum 500k health workers. there are many millions of patients in risk groups. the government is downplaying scale of infection, same as all other governments are doing. Just because they can't cope with organising proper testing and vaccination program
Popular Post Suua
I hadn't realised that the criminals had refused 2 million doses of astrazeneca vaccine from India. Reported in the 'Thai Enquirer' Each passing week seems to bring a new low in the ongoing mismanagement of the affairs of Thailand at the hands of the government led by 2014 coup leader Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha. The latest such low comes amid reports that the Thai government has rejected an offer by India to supply 2 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine immediately. The doses were priced at less than USD 3 each, 60 per cent cheaper than the USD 5 in projected costs for the same vaccine to be produced by Siam BioScience. Calls to authorities in Thailand have not seen any explanation or reason behind the rejection of the offer from India. The offer was reportedly first extended in December. Although there has been no comment by this government on that offer, Thailand has gone ahead and ordered a Chinese-made vaccine at USD 5 per dose. I sincerely hope the Thai population is reading this news Edited January 26, 2021 by Suua 1 1

I sincerely hope the Thai population is reading this news Thats the second report from the Thai Enquirer on that, the first also mentioned a direct quote from the Indian Ambassador to Thailand offering a deal also. “India and Thailand have close and friendly relations and many countries across the world, including many in Southeast Asia, have opted to purchase our vaccines. Thailand is also welcome to do so and that the Indian Embassy would be happy to facilitate it,” Ambassador Suchitra Durai told Thai Enquirer." https://www.thaienquirer.com/23278/rejection-of-indias-vaccine-offer-adds-to-mounting-concerns-about-thailands-vaccine-program/ Of course the generals will never accept this offer, losing face or showing humility is not a trait they possess. Much rather let Thailand wait for its home made Bio Science version
chilly07
Maybe someone has heard of the saying "beware of Greeks bearing gifts" or maybe the gift wasn't big enough. Or maybe too much face lost if India can do it and we can't?

Thailand ordered 26mln astrazeneca for 6bln/$200mln, ie 230b/$7.7. same with Sinovac - 1.3bln for 2mln means 650b/$21.
pseudorabies
And what about the two vaccines, Pfizer's and Moderna's, whose efficacy is actually supported by definitive data from clinical trials? When will they be approved (as if the Thai FDA would do a more discerning job than their US/UK/EU etc counterparts) so that at least private hospitals can buy and offer them to their patients? xtrnuno41
We are talking about Astra, so where he gets it from? India is down and in EU questions has risen about deliveries. As Astra doesnt deliver, Astra cant (will not) answer questions about. EU is now making investigations about amounts produced and where did it go to. The situation is even hostile and that with a company which was making vaccine and selling it at cost price? They changed their mind and now selling to highest bidder, making profit? And i said to myself, what a wonderful world, o yeaaaah
