webfact
Faction of Palang Pracharath MPs ready to explain decision to abstain from voting for Bhumjaithai minister Praphorn Praphornkul BANGKOK (NNT) - In response to the coalition Bhumjaithai Party’s call for the ruling Pracharath Party to punish some of its MPs for abstaining from voting for Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob of Bhumjaithai in last week’s censure debate, MPs of the Palang Pracharath’s Dao Reuk faction have explained the reason for the abstention, saying they perform their duties sincerely and the issue is not personal. The MPs say they are ready to face the party’s disciplinary committee, and will not resign. The pressure is now on Palang Pracharath, after Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul expressed his displeasure with the no-confidence vote, saying Mr. Saksayam is the Bhumjaithai’s secretary-general, and such abstention is considered impolite and disrespectful. The Bhumjaithai Party will have to see how the Palang Pracharath Party handles this issue, before announcing its political stance. Palang Pracharath deputy leader Paiboon Nititawan, as chairman of the party’s fact-finding committee, is to summon all seven MPs for questioning next week. The Palang Pracharath leader, Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, instructed the committee to deal with the issue impartially. The Dao Reuk faction, led by MPs Watanya Wongopasi and Thitipas Chotedechachainan, said their decision to abstain from voting for Mr. Saksayam was sincere, with no benefit or personal interest. They had taken political etiquette into consideration, and are ready to explain to the party’s disciplinary committee. After four MPs of the opposition Future Forward Party voted in support of Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin in the no-confidence debate, the Future Forward Party resolved to disqualify them from the next election and they are not allowed to take part in political activities under the party’s name. However, they will remain Future Forward members, so as to maintain the number of seats in parliament. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-02-25 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

I imagine the outside democratic world will not look too kindly on a PM and party harassing and prosecuting its members for going against them in a democratic parliamentary vote
