Lightening strike v Air Con.
At the very least the ground/earth ( and probably Neutral) potentials were elevated as the earth absorbed the 30-60,000 amps of current nearby. Computer controller boards and their power supplies usually have very limited resistance to an elevated earth voltage. Solid state inverter units are another example. A surge protector on the power input to the device can help. Lots of possibilities with a close strike. If some of the current passed along over the outer surface of the building, then all bets are off , particularly anything on the balcony. And you do get a magnetic field effect from that amount of current nearby. Structural steel can be magnetized by a hit and cause deflection of a compass when held close by. You can get similar effect from an arc welder, or so i am told 😉. So what did the techs find ? -

Authorities Deny Claims of Korean Drug Suspect's Pattaya Jail Livestream
Picture courtesy: Daily News The Thai Department of Corrections has refuted reports that a South Korean drug trafficking suspect, aged 44, livestreamed footage from inside a Thai prison. The suspect, arrested on October 3 in Chonburi Province, reportedly claimed to have filmed the livestream while in custody at Pattaya Remand Prison. The Department of Corrections clarified, however, that the individual had never been held at the facility. The case emerged when the Maeil Business Newspaper reported that the suspect, wanted on drug-related charges in South Korea, had shared a livestream online that appeared to show him inside a Thai detention facility. However, after an internal investigation, the Thai authorities confirmed that no such detainment had occurred at Pattaya Remand Prison, and the cell shown in the video did not match any of their facilities. The suspect was arrested by the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and the Thai Immigration Bureau at a hotel in Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. His arrest was part of a joint effort with South Korean authorities, including the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office (SPO) and the National Intelligence Service (NIS), who had been tracking the suspect’s movements. He is suspected of arranging drug shipments from Thailand to South Korea and was linked to a case in December 2023, when South Korean officials intercepted a package containing 38.46 grams of methamphetamine, or "ice," concealed in coffee and peanut bags. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had been living in Thailand illegally, having overstayed his visa. Thai authorities have since moved to cancel his visa and pursue deportation proceedings. The Department of Corrections quickly checked its records and found no evidence that the individual had ever been admitted to Pattaya Remand Prison. The department also noted that mobile phones, including the one used in the livestream, are prohibited in all Thai prisons. Any unauthorized possession or use of a phone by inmates or staff is considered a serious offense and carries disciplinary consequences, reported Daily News. The Department emphasized that the suspect's claim to have broadcasted from within a Thai prison was unfounded and appeared to be an attempt to sensationalize his detention. Thai authorities remain in close communication with South Korean officials as they work on repatriating the suspect and ensuring he faces justice in his home country. -- 2024-10-16 -

Woman Jumps from 12th Floor of Rama 9 Condo
A young woman tragically jumped from the 12th floor of a well-known condominium near the Rama 9 intersection in Bangkok, at approximately 22.00 on October 15. Rescue teams arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. The woman, aged between 20-30 years, was found on the 5th floor pool area, having sustained fatal injuries. Preliminary reports indicate that the woman’s clothing was in disarray, her shirt had been unbuttoned completely, and she was only wearing underwear on her lower body, with no bra. Her body showed visible injuries, including an open wound on her right ankle. Investigators from Huamark Police Station, led by Pol. Lt. Kowit Kraikruan, arrived at the scene and worked closely with forensic specialists from the police hospital and evidence officers. Initial interviews suggest that the victim had been with her boyfriend shortly before the fall. Witnesses reported hearing a loud argument from the 12th floor room, followed by screams. One witness captured a video of the incident, which showed a man standing on the balcony of the room where the fall occurred. The victim’s boyfriend, who is currently being questioned by the police, admitted they had been arguing prior to the tragedy. He stated that the dispute was fueled by jealousy, and the victim had threatened to jump several times before. Unfortunately, he was unable to prevent her from leaping to her death this time. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances to determine whether foul play was involved or if it was a case of suicide. If you or anyone you know is in emotional distress, please contact the Samaritans of Thailand 24-hour hotline: 02 713 6791 (English), 02 713 6793 (Thai) or the Thai Mental Health Hotline at 1323 (Thai). Please also contact your friends or relatives at this time if you have feelings of loneliness, stress or depression. Seek help. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. -- 2024-10-16 -
