Blood clots

So we all read the news every day about vaccine and some people are worried

about blood clots, since I am on blood thinner can I still get them?

Not that I am very worried about them I am more worried about other side

effects. I am at the age I could kick the bucket anytime I just wondered

if you guys are worry about it ? going for my first shot next week.

I'm no expert, but from reading the latest news they're saying UK scientists found five cases of blood clots in 11 million vaccinated people. And even if they find proof of a link between the clots and the vaccine, the risk is so low versus the benefit of vaccination it would still be better to get vaccinated. 

What I also find interesting is they say some patients had blood clots and some had low platelet counts - which are complete opposites  right?

Don't worry stay on track the virus is almost certainly more deadly than the vaccine had my first jab on heart meds 5 weeks ago fine and staggeringly professional service from the NHS ????

I am on a blood thinner, and got my vaccine last week. not the slightest problem. They sked me what medications I was on at the vaccination site, and they did not seem very concerned about the blood thinner. 

I would not be too concerned about the reports of blood clots with the Astra Zeneca vaccine, no one has made any connection between the vaccine and the blood clots.  You must remember, if you are vaccinating millions of older people, some of them will get Blood clots, and many other things. Just because there is a covid pandemic, does not mean that other things will stop happening.

Well I am not an anti  vaccer I have my flu shot every year

I just wonder if it is necessarily to get the shot.

I agree in Australia thousands of people have been diagnosed every

year with blood clots even before the vaccine

I do know that I am just making the point I am not an anti vaccer

Anyhow the risk is very low, and definitely better than getting the virus. 

But there are better options around, if you are going to get the jab, you might as well get the best. I'd give a hell lot of money to be able to get Pfizer here in Thailand.

I am not in Thailand at to moment I will get the AZ I don't think I can choose

I have blood issues, checked with the specialist, had the AZ, no problems. 

Think the chances of 2 in a million is worth the risk, than the say 2000 per million in the UK from the disease

As I said before I am not worried about it I just wondered

it was said only one batch from an italian factory was suspected. The ones made elsewhere (india, korea, the UK) should be ok.

if you are on medication, you are protected. Problem might be with people undiagnosed and without medication.

As you are in a covid risk group, you should take vax.

 As situation with AZ is still developing you can talk to doctors just before the jab. In thailand they decided to postpone jab just 30 minutes before planned time.

Just fyi, they are not talking about "blood clots", they are talking about sinus vein thrombosis.

The difference is like the difference between a pimple on your nose and a decapitation. Not quite the same. 

And they are not talking about sinus vein thrombosis in geratric sex tourists, they are talking about sinus vein thrombosis in young nubile women (the opposite of geriatric sex tourists).

This explains why they take it so seriously.

Yes, just to fatten that out a bit- it's actually cerebral sinus veinous thrombosis (csvt) and the underlying cause is immune thrombocytopenia.

This problem is thankfully quite rare, and is not exclusive to the AZ vaccine, having been observed in both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.

It is also important because up til now most vaccine campaigns have focused on older age groups, and not on the age group at risk.

I'm on 2.5mg Warfain daily for  a DVT and have been for the last 5 years.

Surely if the purpose of warfarin is to thin your blood, then you have a head start if the AV vaccine does increase the risk of a blood clot?

Pfizer is asociated with an equal number of blood clots, although in reality probably neither is implicated.

I think it has been repeatedly shared here that all these vaccines are 100% effective in preventing death and hospitalization.  The efficacy numbers that we here so much about can't really be compared head to head, in any event they all have very good efficacy numbers.  I think it they are all very closely comparable.

A Danish professor has suggested that -at least in some cases-  blood clots are caused by incorrect injection techniques (reference in Danish):   https://www.berlingske.dk/nyheder/dansk-professor-forkert-vaccineteknik-kan-udloese-blodpropper. Basically the injection has to be done deep into the muscle but in some cases a blood vessel may be hit. In order to check this, it is advised to aspire the syringe -i.e. pull back the plunger to see if any blood appears before the vaccine is actually injected. When a blood vessel is hit and the vaccine is injected, some of the vaccine may go directly into the bloodstream and reach the lungs. This may cause an extreme inflammatory reaction resulting in small blood clots in the lungs.

Note that this is just a hypothesis but should not be automatically discarded.
