bad advice from Airport Plaza DTAC: 2g phone must be replaced ?

Once again found I could not call out on my (old, not smart) Samsung: balance expired.

This happened last year; then (at Airport Plaza DTAC), I was able ... by raising  a wee bit  o'  hell  ... to get the balance re-credited.

English-speaking  staff  at  Airport Plaza DTAC now  tell me 2g is  disabled,  and,  I must get  a  newer  phone.

I can receive Sms'  and incoming calls.  Can't dial call center #1678

Something smells like durian,  here.

your  thoughts ?

My Samsung smart phone just received a new Sim card that supports 4G/5G.  Did you ask Dtac whether a new Sim card will be accepted and functional in your old phone?

Buy a new phone, it doesn't have to be smart.

A phone that does not 3G at least: to the bin or museum.

You will not even get a Baht at a pawn shop.

2G is definitely off.

Thanks, they said the existing sim would work in any 3/4 -g phone.

And what model is your phone exactly? How old?

The NBTC wanted to shut down 2G in Oct 2019, if memory serves.

But it got a reprieve, not  sure where that's up to now but it's days are numbered.

Follow the advice and upgrade your phone. Lots of affordable 4G and even some 5G phones available now.

Throw away your 2g phone. Those are for Cavemen.

Fight the power.  Make them take that 2G phone away from you.

Put your SIM card in a tomato can. Connect a second can with a piece of string.

1G - 555

Seriously - get a new fone.

Thanks for the entertainment, friends ... ????

The facts are:

1.  the phone connects to the DTAC network

2.  it receives SmS messages and voice calls

3.  if I dial out, the error message is credit expired  ...  the account has 3100 baht credit. This happened last year; then (at Airport Plaza DTAC), I was able ... by raising  a wee bit  o'  hell  ... to get the balance re-credited.

On topic responses, please

my thoughts?
stop having short arms and deep pockets.

When DTAC stopped serving the old G phones they sent me a notice and asked me to come in and pick up a new free phone that worked with their new higher Gs which I did.  Why didn't you get a new free phone from them? Did you not read the text messages they sent to you?  Might not be too late unless the hell you raised is remembered.

3100 Baht credit on a phone?  Were you using it as a bank account?

They are being nice.

I am presuming this is a pre paid sim card. What is the validity/expiry date of the SIM. Presumably you are aware that call credit and validity of the sim do not move in tandem?
