Cambodia’s death toll from COVID-19 continued to rise with the death of Mao Ayuth, 77, yesterday evening and another 65 years old patient who resided in Kampong Speu’s Somrong Tong district who had been admitted to hospital on 15 April. He succumbed to chronic organ failures brought about by COVID-19 at 4pm on Thursday at the LKhmer Soviet Friendship Hospital.

Earlier on Thursday, the sad demise of Mao Auth, famed producer and Secretary of State was also announced. This brings the death toll to 38 out of 5,218 infected people and deaths are directly linked to the February 20 Community Event, which is said to be the deadly UK Variant.

The February 20 Community Event has thus far logged 4,876 cases since it first announced on the date, now recorded in infamy in Cambodia’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the deaths thus far are a Chinese national, a South Korean National and a French National who is also the oldest recorded fatality at 86.
