11 Chinese men arrested for violating travel ban

Featured Replies

Eleven Chinese men were arrested by police for violating the government’s interprovincial travel ban and attempting to travel from Preah Sihanouk province to Phnom Penh via Kampot province. Kampot provincial police chief, Major General Mao Chanmathurith, said the men were arrested about 9am yesterday in Kampot province’s Chhouk district, Trameng commune in Ang Khley village.

He added that they were arrested while crossing Kampot province from Preah Sihanouk province to go to Phnom Penh in a minivan. “They broke the Government’s inter-provincial travel ban by travelling from Preah Sihanouk province to Phnom Penh,” Maj Gen Chanmathurith told Khmer Times.

He said the van they were travelling in what looked like a cargo carrier to confuse police so that they would not stop the vehicle for inspection. However, he added, the police stopped the vehicle and found the men inside.
