BANGKOK, April 30 (TNA) – The government is ready to accept COVID-19 vaccine registration applications from all producers, said Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

Speaking after a meeting to discuss COVID-19 vaccine issues with representatives of Sinopharm Co, Mr Anutin said he told the representatives that the Public Health Ministry supported the registration of COVID-19 vaccines from all manufacturers and Sinopharm could file their application with the Food and Drug Administration when it had all necessary documents.

Mr Anutin stressed that the government did not choose to support any particular vaccine producers and more choices of vaccines were arriving in Thailand because manufacturers had enough vaccines for sales and were seeking vaccine registration in Thailand.

Surprised he is still flapping his trap. Must have licked ole P's shoes to a high gloss.

I don't buy one little word this guy says about no favoritism to the one and two companies because who they are attached to.

Sinopharm another vaccine with no published phase 3 results, great, any investments from Thai companies in this one?

I feel, like those meetings with sputnik, pfizer, and now sinopharm and invitation to others, are just smokescreen and time buying for the government. Also possibly buying them some brown envelopes.

What they always have stated, that the dominant will be locally made AZ, and others are only emergency orders in small quantities, before AZ appear.

They have refused indian ambassador offer in december.

They have also refused 4x offer from pfizer for free delivery and postponed payment.

Sinovac was only 2mln, others might be larger, but still insignificant for a rapid need of a minimum 100mln jabs (the 3rd one might be necessary sometimes after 6 months). Some of those, more singificantly, AZ, migh become redundant in face of new mutations. So they should need to stock up with many different.

Apparently, pfizer and even moderna are already registered in thailand, but it might not mean anything real - no order and even after ordering a long wait.

They are trying to show, how proactive they are, after being idle from the beginning of april for some 3 weeks.

I'm confused. Is it the vaccine makers job to seek permission to vaccinate the people of Thailand?

Or is it Thailand's Health Minister's job to acquire vaccines to vaccinate the people of Thailand?

I guess Mr Anutin is waiting for the vaccine makers to come to him?

Does this clown beleave that vaccine manufacture are going to come running to you to register... Countries around the world are chasing these Companies to buy, same as what Thailand should have been doing over a Year ago,... This man is unbelievable ????

If they were smart, what they are definitely not, they would approach Curevac in Germany and give it a emergency approval.

Curevac is a coming star in the field of mRNA-vaccines. Besides BioNTech, they employ some of the leading scientists in the field of mRNA technology.

Their vaccine is ready already and the production has started. They are just waiting for the slow and bureaucratic approval of the EU, which is expected for early June. Mid of last year there were rumours that Donald Trump plans to buy the company, and therefore the German government invested 300 million Euro in the company to prevent that.

This vaccine is based on mRNA, similar to BioNTech-Pfizer, but is not demanding low temperatures for storage. It will be produced in huge numbers soon. IIRC, they will supply 300 million doses to the EU till end of the year. Curevac cooperates with Bayer, and they use around a dozen production plants in Europe, among them factories of GlaxoSmithKline and Novartis.

Maybe Curevac could supply some million doses relatively quickly to Thailand, who knows? It will be a perfect vaccine, as is will be very efficient on the one hand and easy to handle on the other hand. I have no doubt that it will be as safe as BioNTech-Pfizer with little to no side effects.

A normal ministry of health in a normal country should know about this company, and many countries are in contact with them already. But okay this is Thailand, and here everything is under inept superman Prayut.

Overall, we have ridden the COVID wave quite well (so far) in Thailand.

However, the lack of an 'exit strategy' has been clear for at least 6 months, since around the time promising vaccine trial results were starting to be released.

Additionally, however low COVID cases have been in Thailand, as a country with a heavy tourism industry, I would have thought it obvious that it was going to be virtually impossible to allow tourists back in until locals have been broadly vaccinated. Hence the rather unseemly and failed scramble to vaccinate Phuket in the past few weeks.

I don't like to overly criticise any governments, during what is an unprecedented and challenging event. However, their vaccine policy has clearly been a huge failure in their risk assessments and they should have ordered a reasonable amount of other vaccines to get the ball rolling prior to the expected go-live for AZ/SB.

I can only assume they were either complacent, trying to save money or sought all the glory themselves and wanted to lap up the admiration of the plebs for saving the day. Who really knows where AZ/SB is standing ? It might be going to plan, it might not, but for such a critical matter putting all your eggs into this one basket is wholly unacceptable, and quite frankly, stupid.

Of course they are asking vaccine companies to register, register the size of the brown envelopes they are prepared to hand over.

Think of the big losses that would imply!

Losses for Bioscience and for Sinovac/CP.

Exactly these losses are the main reasons for the vaccine disaster in Thailand.

Plus, it would be quite embarrassing for the propaganda machine here if the focus would change to other manufacturers, as the propaganda wants make Siam Bioscience the saviour of the country. The greed and these intended narratives are the cause for the disaster here now.

Yes, let's bury the vaccine companies in red tape, then blame them for failure of the vaccine campaign. Can you imagine many awful and confusing documents all requesting the same information will need to be submitted? All badly translated into English by non native speakers? Ugh. Anutin, please resign, for my peace of mind here in Thailand

In the meanwhile fearless leader assures the commoners that Siam Bioscience can handle all vaccines needed for Thailand.....at some point in the distance future - maybe.

"No need for importing Pfzer, or Moderna, or J&J, or Sputnik-V, or any vaccine not manufactured by the single-source supplier for the whole of SE Asia if not beyond.  You'll all be vaccinated soon!", .....at some point in the distance future - maybe.

No no no.  BS and SV/CP are philanthropic organizations working for the good of humanity.  Profits?  Who cares about profits in these dire times?
Vaccines are coming for sure very soon (sometime in the distance future - maybe).  No need for imported vaccines.  Everything is under control.

"Under control?  That it is.  Very, Very, Controlled."  ????

My understanding is that the private sector, including the private local thai hospitals have already tweaked the supply chain for covid vaccine importation and ready to begin rollout BUT are waiting for approval from the FDA, thai goverment whom are dragging their feet, creating delays for some reason or another.

It's all about appearances.

Let’s look at the vaccine scorecard for Thailand.  Subject to change daily.  Efficacy % is approximate:

    Name.                         Efficacy   Status

1.  SinoVac............................55%............approved
2. Astra/Zeneca................76%.............approved
3. Sputnik V............................?.......................?

4. Pfizer.....................................95%................?
5. Moderna............................95%................?
6. Johnson & Johnson...95%...............?

My apologies if I’ve left any vaccines out.

Edited by Isaan sailor

1.  SinoVac 50.65% in Brazil trial, 91.25% in Turkey trial not 55%............approved
2. Astra/Zeneca................76%.............approved
3. Sputnik V............................91.6%.......................not

4. Pfizer.....................................91.3% not 95%................approved, nobody knows when imported
5. Moderna...................over 90% not 95%................approved, nobody knows when imported
6. Johnson & Johnson only 68% not 95%...............not

7. CanSino Biologics developed Convidecia 65.3%

8. Sinopharm Beijing 79.3%

9. Bhorat Covacin 78%

those percentage figures don't mean much. Any of those approved worldwide vax are good enough to stop death and spread of infection.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/science/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker.html

UK GOV Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine adverse reactions

Copy and paste this to get the UK governments adverse vax reactions and deaths. Pfizer and Astra Zeneca show alarmingly high numbers. Over 1000 deaths and 200,000 + reactions ( one week )

Way too little, way too late.

Minister Anutin.... Instead of being a racist, a bigot, and now looking for a scapegoat. ...

Do everyone a great service and retire and let a worldly, educated, and culturally literate Person be appointed to THE MINISTER OF HEALTH.

You have done enough harm to the kingdom and our country.
