Hello, 

 

I have a bill ( hospital )  in thai language and my insurance wants the translation in my language ( or English )

I have tried to select the text in pdf and past it to Google translate , but it doesn't work ( letters unreadable ) 

do you have a solution, apart to have it translated by a professinal translator ?

Why don't you ask the hospital for a bill in English language? Most will do. 

 

Try it as an image, then use a FREE "OCR" online. (Optical character recognition)

I know, but it's my GF who paid, and she didn't think to this story of English ; I didn't tell her before, because I was sure that it would be in English ; next time , I go my self to the cashier 

If the print is clear/sharp, take a picture with the smartphone and feed it to the Google translate app ("Camera"/"Import").

I prefer this detour to directly taking picture with G.t.

Try your best to get a clear picture, not blurry or askew.

I have no idea why this route seems unavailable through the G.t. website(?).

 

Most complicated detour: do a quality scan, copy that to the smartphone and feed it to G.t. app.

 

The G.t. app will also show the Thai text evaluated by OCR.

You can give that to your wife for proofread/compare/correct.

Of course: if it's about a significant amount or the insurance does not accept, you have to find a professional.

That's basically what the Google translate app on the smartphone does.

And it has much improved over the years.

Get her to translate it (using Google if necessary) and you write down what she says.

Most hospitals will translate a bill into English, even after it's been paid.

I was surprised.

I use GT on my computer, and yes, much improved : I have pasted a long text , rather complicated , from English to my language ( French ),and I can tell you the result was correct at 99.9% without spelling mistake 

 

I did what CharlieH said, result is good, and my health insurance has accept it

next time, I shall pay myself and ask the bill in English 

I have translated things myself. There is no certification body in Thailand for translators. Just sign it and put your telephone number. 

Email the hospital to ask for the bill in English.

I use a professional translator that charges @100 baht a page if you hit a brick wall and you can afford those sort of prices dm me.
