A senior Thai immigration official has said that detailed checks are taking place at airports in Thailand after a gang dealing in surrogacy came to light.

Such checks on a Thai woman with an eleven month old boy at Suvarnabhumi airport revealed that the child's birth certificate was a fake.

She was named as the mother and a Chinese man was named as the father of the boy born on May 22nd last year, reported Sanook at the IB briefing yesterday.

But the birth certificate was fake - the paper used was wrong and the ink came from an injet printer, not what is normally used.

The woman had been heading for Chengdu but was taken into custody charged with document falsification.

Deputy commander of the Immigration Bureau Pol Maj-Gen Achayon Kraithong said that this was part of a surrogacy conspiracy.

Documents are being closely checked at this time.
