Ariya Jutanugarn celebrates after becoming the first Thai golfer to win the Honda LPGA Thailand tournament AFP/Lillian SUWANRUMPHA

BANGKOK: Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn staged one of her biggest fightbacks by firing a final round nine-under-par 63 to become the first Thai to win the Honda LPGA Thailand on Sunday (May 9).

The former world number one also snapped a three-year winless streak by lifting her 11th LPGA Tour title with her winning four-day total of 22-under-par 266 at the Siam Country Club.

Atthaya Thitkul, who had the chance to force a play-off with a birdie at the last hole, could only manage to close with a par when play resumed, having been suspended for more than an hour due to inclement weather.

Congrats and very well done. Finally wins on home turf especially sweet after that disastrous triple-bogey finish on 18 in 2013 to blow the tournament and hand it to Inbee. Some may argue that compatriot Atthaya Thitikul blew this one by missing 2-3 short putts down the stretch, but can't argue with Ariya's 9-under 63.

Well played and very well deserved.

Great she won ... but damn she makes her rounds really hard work sometimes with play that defies even hacker belief.
