The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), and major construction companies in Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan and Nonthaburi, have been instructed by the CCSA to tighten up preventive measures at about 400 construction site worker housing facilities, after the discovery of clusters of COVID-19 infections at sites in Laksi and Wattana districts.

 

CCSA Spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, said the CCSA discussed cluster infections in some worker housing facilities today and expressed concern that similar clusters could erupt at other sites, due to their cramped conditions and the mix of nationalities among the workers.

 

The latest estimate, by the BMA, shows that there are about 24,600 Thai workers and about 34,600 migrant workers, from Myanmar and Cambodia, scattered across about 400 construction sites in Bangkok and the three neighboring provinces.

When they live in crowded conditions, dormitory style and share everything communally would this not be expected just like the factories in Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, and Prachuap Kiri Kan.  The only way to reduce the exposures would be to do like the Government has proposed for restaurants, 25% Capacity, and then vaccinate these workers as well.  If the projects are that important start to treat the workers as employees and not as slaves.  But then that is just my view.

Looks like on of the main benefits of Covid in Thailand will be to reveal the inhuman conditions imposed on outrageously cheap labour and prison inmates. This should exposed in the west and economic sanctions imposed accordingly.

Treat all the Workers as Employees !

What !, and loose the air of domination over the lowly classes.

And thats my view.

Do a full scale tests on these workers and you will be surprised with the numbers. No test = no Covid.

And mine-make the employers pay decent wages provide free quarantine and decent housing and Thais will take the jobs

About time that each full-time worker is paid a living wage instead of a slave laborer's pittance. Then they could afford to rent apartments like adult human beings elsewhere and wouldn't need to live in crowded dorms or shacks.

Worker housing in Laksi among five Bangkok COVID-19 clusters under close watch

 

 

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is keeping a close eye on five clusters of COVID-19 infections in the capital, particularly at the construction worker housing facility in Laksi district, where 482 (86.22%) of 559 workers screened have tested positive for the disease.

 

BMA Permanent Secretary Silapasuay Raweesangsoon said today (Sunday) that since the start of the new wave of the pandemic on April 1st, health officials have identified 27 clusters of infections across 17 districts, namely Din Daeng, Wattana, Klong Toey, Laksi, Lat Phrao, Ratchathewi, Phra Nakhon, Dusit, Pom Prap Sattru Phai, Suan Luang, Pathumwan, Sathorn, Samphanthawong, Chatuchak, Silom, Prawet and Wang Thong Lang.

 

Among the 27 clusters, five with the fastest growing rate with a tendency for continued rapid spread are the worker housing facility in Laksi, the Din Daeng apartments, the site worker housing in Wattana, the Klong Thom Centre, the July 22 Circle in Pom Prap and Huai Khwang market in Din Daeng.
