GrahamJ
There are no rules, Petchaburi hasn't imposed any restrictions on people arriving from other provinces. I drove down from Bangkok to Chaam last week without any problems. I think your in-laws are having a lend of you.
Neeranam
Go to the beach with your daughter and tell the inlaws where to go. Seriously, my life improved a lot when I showed them I do what I want to do. I'm thinking of taking my daughter, who is studying in Bangkok, to Hua Hin. smutcakes
I drove down from BKK to Surat this morning and no stops more than normal. Light traffic.

If you intend on driving 90 km make sure you stay in the center lane. Drivers to Hua Hin will blow by you like you're standing still. Sometimes large groups of bikers will do the same.
