Kampot Provincial Court has detained and is conducting interrogations on two rice wine sellers over the recent alcohol poisoning case after a funeral in the province, which led to 10 deaths and 45 others to suffer from alcohol poisoning. Court prosecutor Ek Chheng Hout told Khmer Times yesterday that one of the suspects is believed to have mixed extra methanol into wine after buying it from a wholesaler, and the court is looking to place charges.

 

Chheng Hout said the other “is not involved in adding methanol in his wine, if based on the analysis by authorities”. “I am going to release him if he is not found guilty. However, the investigation is still underway,” he added.

 

Director of Kampot provincial Health Department Dr Nha Bunthon said that between May 21 and 24, there were 55 cases of alcohol poisoning which led to 10 deaths. On May 21, almost all the victims attended the funeral of “Mom Samut” who was suspected to have died due to regular consumption of alcohol. At the funeral, most attendees drank rice wine with pork belly soup.

Mom Samut had everything organized when she died she didn't want to go alone.

"Extra" implies that there is already methanol in the wine. No wine for human consumption should contain methanol.

Probably a mistranslation; in Thai the words for "add" is often substituted for the word "extra".
