Nearly 18 tons of counterfeit alcohol destroyed by market officials

On May 31, 2021, nearly 18 tons of counterfeit alcohol or methanol was destroyed at a landfill in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor districtThe destruction organised with the approval of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court and with the participation of Dangkor district administration officials. These methanol substances were confiscated from warehouses and pharmacies in Phnom Penh.

 

Alcohol or ethanol is a substance that is used to kill germs, especially at a time when Covid-19 disease is so prevalent that the demand for alcohol is high, so much so  that some opportunists have faked methanol. Methanol is sold to people to kill germs or as an ingredient for making antiseptic gels. The chemical methanol is a toxic substance that is often used as a solvent.
