Pfizer emphasizes negotiations only with government agencies on COVID-19 vaccines

BANGKOK (NNT) - Pfizer (Thailand) has emphasized that the firm is commencing negotiations with government agencies only on the provision of COVID-19 vaccines, because this is the best way to ensure the vaccine is distributed to as many people as possible in each country.

Pfizer said it is currently discussing, with the Department of Disease Control, ways to ensure that its vaccine is available to all, in response to reports that a private company will import 20 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

The statement also confirmed that Pfizer has not yet appointed any private organization or agency to be the importer of the company’s vaccine.

Pfizer added that no private firm has been allowed, so far, to distribute the Pfizer vaccine.

That might be true for other countries than Thailand...

Kudos to Pfizer Thailand for being pro-active in being transparent, and shooting down the verbal diarrhea from the regime (Director-General of the Disease Control Department Dr. Opart Karnkawinpong today (Friday).).

Pfizer faces DOJ, SEC foreign bribery probes for China, Russia operations

Big Pharma's operations abroad are a common punching bag for U.S. anti-corruption watchdogs, which have snared a series of high-profile settlements in recent years. Now, Pfizer will take its turn under those watchdogs' withering eyes for its business in Russia and China.

The foreign corruption units at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) are looking into Pfizer's activities in China and Russia, the drugmaker said in a quarterly securities filing.

--  My guess is the US is taking a hard look at any Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) violations worldwide regarding Covid19 vaccines by American companies and their foreign subsidiaries.

I once worked for a rather significant international company that sells water quality test instruments. The sales people regularly complained that they lost contracts because company policy strictly forbid anything that looked like price fixing or subtle bribery to foreign officials. So some US companies definitely follow the law, generally to the detriment of sales.

That's exactly why playing by rules with rogue nations like China is a fool's game. Rules are used as weapons against their adversaries and are consciously exploited with glee.

Thankfully the world is waking up to this and refusing to play, which infuriates China, resulting in a belligerent self-righteous rant about being discriminated against. Only they should be allowed to cheat. It's all part of their deceitful game.

Pfizer more worried about actually being payed than taking the moral high ground! Don't they realise that the Government here is a whole series of individual private companies ensuring that status quo is maintained?

I have no idea what Pfizer (Thailand) Ltd. realizes or doesn't realize , however:

"In Thailand, Pfizer has been with Thai people for over 60 years. ...

Every day, Pfizer staff work with healthcare providers, medical scientists, doctors, hospitals, governmental agencies, local communities and their colleagues from around the world to make good things (happen and a) healthier world."

Your guess is almost certainly since it's regarding Pfizer operations in China and Russia. Pfizer doesn't manufacture the vaccine in either of those nations, and is, in fact, a competitor to vaccines produced there. Russia and China have been engaging in a massive disinformation campaign to slur the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

It really just says what we already knew, that ALL procurement of the vaccine must go through Govt channels

The Russia investigation was from 2019.  The Chinese one from June 2020--When the covid vaccine was just in early phases of clinical trials.

Impossible these were related to the covid vaccine.

Thanks for pointing out the the 2019 and 2020 FCPA investigations regarding Pfizer activities in China and Russia did not involve COVID19. But it does mean that the investigatory resources regarding any possible big pharma companies' COVID19 related transgressions in this part of the world are already in place

Which of course makes one extremely doubtful Pfizer said anything at all or has anything to do with this press release. Just the powers that be, playing their game of three card monte & what fun.  ????
