BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, says a meeting of cabinet ministers today (June 8 ) approved the hiring of 10,000 special government employees on a one-year contract to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gen. Prayut said today that the cabinet meeting approved a 2.2-billion-baht budget to hire 10,000 government special government employees. The government will hire students who have recently completed a bachelor’s degree. They will work at government offices on important and urgent tasks across the country. Their monthly salary is 18,000 baht. Their benefits are equivalent to normal government employees, and social security money is included.

The cabinet also acknowledged the Center for Economic Situation Administration’s (CESA) resolution on preparations to welcome foreign tourists in 10 pilot provinces in the third and fourth quarters of this year. The Phuket Sandbox model will be implemented to welcome fully vaccinated tourists, starting July 1st. Some 400,000 people in Phuket, or 60 percent of the Phuket population, have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Visitors must undergo strict screening. They must carry a vaccination certificate from at least 14 days before the trip and a proper entry permit. Medical examinations will be conducted during their stay. The Phuket Sandbox model will serve as a prototype for other tourism provinces. Relevant agencies are to make adjustments to ensure public health safety and economic recovery. The government’s Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) will consider their proposals before forwarding them to the cabinet for approval.

Recently finished their bachelor and now already creaming off THB 18K monthly as one of the  10,000 government special government employees. Quite a populistic move and certainly a waste of money as those kids cannot have a clue on how to even spell "special", except being grossly overpaid.

Move forward is the word ..........

The only condition will be, other then a recent degree, is that they must all be relatives of ministers or those that hold administrative positions.  Riff raff who may spill the beans need not apply.

18,000 Baht x 10,000 staff = 180 Million total for the one-year contract. 2.2 Billion Baht total allocation by cabinet approval, what happens to the other 2,020,000,000 (2.02 Billion) baht??....

I think you got your sums wrong.

2,200,000,000 Baht divided by 10,000 employees is 220,000 Baht per year - or 18,333 Baht per month.

Correct, management fees are taken directly from the beneficiary in monthly cash rebate payments or an up front yearly sum, rather than adding on top to the cost - the latter can cause issues with the pesky interferring guidelines provider NACC Im told

I smell an election looming. First Uncle TU does a mea culpa now he hires the protesters. Too little too late. Thai youth already see their future and have made up their minds. What absolutely simplistic thinking.

Shuffling young, inexperienced students to random government offices to do "important work". I'm sure that's going to go down well with the local govt workers.

Expect an election in six months

Finally!

For the first time, there will now be enough government workers to ensure that everything in Thailand runs smoothly, with no more waste or corruption.
