Ancient heritage recovered: Cambodian Ambassador accepts return of lost artefacts

Featured Replies

A repatriation agreement has been inked to return 27 Khmer artefacts after their seizure in the United States. New York District Attorney’s cultural office representative Cyrus Vance and Cambodian Ambassador to the US Chum Sounary on Wednesday executed the agreement during a ceremony that other officials attended online.

Among the 27 artefacts were several Angkorian Buddhist and Hindu statues such as a bronze meditation Buddha on a Naga, a statue of Shiva and a Buddhist sandstone sculpture of Prajnaparamita. Minister of Culture Phoeurng Sackona said: “The win-win policy of the government that has brought peace to Cambodia is a strong foundation for the preservation of the nation’s culture.”

“The repatriation provides evidence that even during the difficult circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, Cambodia remains committed to finding and bringing back our ancestors’ souls that departed their motherland over a number of years, including during a period of war,” she said.

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

It seems like Americans stole alot of stuff while they were fighting in Asia. I'm sure some were bought from the dishonest sellers as well.
