Sanook reported that the chief of the Krabi police Pol Col Jaturawit Khachanuam had ordered the local water police to investigate after posts on TikTok and Facebook.

These featured a group of men on a speedboat who were shooting sharks and hauling three of them aboard in a distressing video.

One man wrote "ying gan man leuy" - it was great fun shooting them.

The username on Facebook was the same as TikTok and described a man who suffered seasickness and who described coming across a shiver of sharks.

Pol Maj Thaweelap Suwannareuk of the Krabi water police said that initial investigations indicated this happened between Phi Phi and Koh Ha islands.

He said they are following up leads and suspect that the miscreants are local young people.

He said they would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

One man has been arrested for killing endangered sharks off the coast in the southern province of Krabi, as Thailand’s Natural Resources and Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa has ordered park officials in the southern province of Krabi to track down the owner of a speedboat and a group of men who shot dead three blacktip reef sharks during a fishing expedition.

A video clip, which was posted on Facebook, shows a group of men angling from a speedboat. One of them is seen pulling out a gun and firing several shots into the sea. Then they pull three dead blacktip reef sharks on board. The incident took place between Phi Phi and Ha islands.

Prakai Ouiwong, 26, was arrested last night (Monday) by Krabi Marine Police. He admitted having killed the sharks along with six other friends on Sunday, and being the one who used the gun when their fishing rods that got them two sharks up the boat broke to bring the other one up.

Disgusting garbage people. They should be severely punished but most likely will get off with a warning.

they will have a severe punishment indeed — will get pointed at with the Finger of Embarrassment in front of the camera and will have to do wai to the police officers.

Meanwhile, all over Thailand.... Shark fin soup on the menu and lots of sharks in the seafood markets.

Shoot 'em, net 'em, spear 'em or whatever brings them to the markets...  The result is a dead shark on someone's dinner table.

Thank God they weren't caught holding a sea cucumber.

Baring in mind how those two 'foreigners' were treated for simply picking up wildlife whilst diving, will be interesting to see how this Thai fella is treated.

All given a reprimand, fined, made to wai to the ocean and shark-gods, and released with a pat on the head and a biscuit.

And don't forget the women feeding the dish with a slice of bread that the tour boat staff gave her....to feed the fish.
