I am renting a car in BKK for a few days (coming from another country).

My question is about insurance and theft. The car rental comes

with some basic type of insurance(CDW), and I have added PAI(personal

accident insurance).

However, Avis does not offer theft protection. Why is this?

Are car theft rates high in Thailand? We will have the car

with us at a hotel in the south Central provinces, and have no

idea whether the hotel offers a safe place to park a car.

Should I be concerned about this, or is the probability of

theft unlikely?

I read in one of the Pattaya rags some time ago that less than 50 cars and trucks are stolen every year in Pattaya City. Whether this even approaches the truth is a matter of conjecture. Now motor bikes - thats a different story altogether.

I would seriuosly question Avis on this.

It sounds unlikely , more likely you have to check your liability (excess) in case of theft.

I certainly wouldn't drive off in a rental , park it somewhere and hope it's there when I

come back because otherwise I have to pay for the whole ####### car.

If they are offering CDW and PA they just MUST be covering for theft , even with an excess.

I'm not sure about CDW,but I heard Avis has First Class Insurance SCDW offer you but have to pay more, new scrash or damage, you don't pay anything and your litigant, too, just return car back and sign! but Car Theft is included or not,i don't know but I think if car has been stolen, case by case for finding who's responsibility!Everything has to probe before has defendant,i think.

Read your rental agreement, policy is on the back! :o
