BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's economy is expected to return to pre-pandemic levels in the first quarter of 2023, the central bank said on Monday, as tourism has been slow to recover.

The central bank will closely monitor the situation and is ready to implement measures as necessary, deputy governor Mathee Supapongse told a seminar on tourism.

Maybe by 2025. Dreamers they are, as 2021 will also be a write-off and tourism will take years to recover.

  • 'Expected' and 'monitored'.   That will be ok then, I can now relax whilst the business I've built up here for the last 9 years drips down the drain.   And my business isn't remotely connect

And my business isn't remotely connected to tourism.  Those guys had it all flushed away 12 months ago.  Thank you to all the governments and banks for their continued support and rhetoric.

For tourism to be slow to recover there has to have been some sort of recovery. There hasn't been.

For the ones who control this joint, tourism doesn't effect them so they dont care

Pre-pandemic the Thai economy was in the gutter so there is a outside possibility

The was an alien space ship spotted over Swampy yesterday towing a banner saying " The recovery is on the way"

"prepandamic level"

Wait until the higher GDP rate pre-coup level.

With this latest fiasco, virtually no vaccines and the health system in shambles I'd say any country thinking of dealing with Thailand might just be getting cold feet and looking for other nations to do business with.

No suprise.

Its just the latest Covid inspired buแ<deleted>  many countries are pulling.

Pretending their economies have bounced back stronger, or are normal,

when there is no possible way they can be.

They have borrowed gazillions,

record number of businesses closing,

massive unemployment, (of which they desperately try try to fudge the figures).

GDP down, record low consumer spending.. on and on

But Yep, its all back to normal or better ????

Typical example Australia,..a massive boom apparently, amid the silliest lockdowns on Earth with businesses slowly choking to death.

Although when you ban people from leaving and the cost of houses skyrockets in 3 months it has got to help some.

wish;s and dreams, never happen the way it is going.

That isn't ever going to happen in the New Normal world order. Although they may expand their manufacturing base, tourism will never recover.

Let's just say I doubt that it will be that soon. This current wave isn't like the others before, and who knows what else is about to come.

One year at a time please; just concentrate every effort on getting the Population Vaccinated and stop telling the lie everyone will be Jabbed by the end of this year !

Tourism slow to recover?  There is no tourism, LOL!

Anyways....

2022 will be another write-off for tourism at least the first part of it.  When it does come back in 2023 allegedly it won't be 39 million people either.  It's not a light switch that gets turned on.

I expect prices to be much higher and accommodation will be more expensive because most people have moved on or hotels have been shuttered.

But they love to hear the whispers of sweet nothings.

i ( and many others,  especially Thais,  but some farang business people as well) feel your pain.       I am not sure if you care to satisfy my curiosity....... what business and where ?

our rentals in CM  we have lowered the rents 20 %  to keep them occupied.  restaurants and entertainment places........mostly gone or going.     Yep,  all to keep us alive .   Well, retirees with pensions really are not affected financially............ don't think they cared at first,  but life like this sure isn't the dream we all hoped for.   Nor the average thai person (IMO)

Things were slowing down before the pandemic with new rules and general anti western sentiment within the junta.

Sorry to hear about your business.

Yes, I agree. I wonder the 1% that rule, regulate, and control; how are they affected ?

Not in the least by one bit are they affected and in reality they could care less as it really does not affect their travels worldwide and back even now.

What was the method used to determine the date of the economic recovery, spinning a wheel of fortune or throwing a dart at a labelled dartboard?
