Hey Guys, would be interested to hear any comments/feedback on Pattaya 2 local Big C stores.

 

I live Khaotalo Darkside (9 years) so no real need to visit city centre too often.

 

However, I had the pleasure of visiting the two closest Big C's over a 2 week span.

 

Pattaya Tai was simply dead. Customers close to zero and western fresh/frozen meat was simply zip. But all was good. Happy people selling and buying.

 

Central Pattaya Road, Carrefour was busy as hell. Lots of hungry (food) for us foreigners.

 

Methinks it is about demographics. and socio-economics.

 

The Carrefour European 60+ male presence with their shirts undone, guts hanging out, masks not attempting to covering their bulbous nose - pretty sad stuff.

I would have thought a better standard of dress.....but probably not, as I have seen first hand how they dress in their homeland.

 

Gunna get my food quick next time now I know what is available at Carrefour, and get out quick.

 

Any non-covid thoughts anyone while I am listening to The Yawpers cow-punk music?

 

 

You missed out Big C at Central Marina Mall on 2nd Road (opposite Beach Road Soi 3. On 2 floors, food on ground floor, Western fare is available.

Try Big C Pattaya Klang, my Mrs shops there all the time, excellent fresh bakery, seafood & meat counter, also plenty of farang food choice.

 

We also use Siamburi's & Siam expats food.

 

And why concern yourself with how others dress ? In 10 years I never have, as long as I am clean, clean shaven, neat & tidy I don't bother with how others look.

I don't understand why the OP continues to call it Carrefour when it hasn't been that for at least 10 years, I do remember when it was called Carrefour, he has been to 2, now plainly called Big C, why continue to call it Carrefour ???

I preferred Carre 4 when it was Carre 4.  It carried different things and brands than the Big Cs.  But the Pattaya Klang store is ok.  The Marina Big C over near what used to be the Dolphin Roundabout has a great ground floor barbecue place, meat and veggies you cook at your table.  The barbecue sauce they use is still one of my favorites

Because everyone instantly knows where you mean and that they have stocks catering to Farang tastes.

to be fair, most place that was Carrefour that are now BigC 'Extra' (in Bangkok too) has kept the more western products, some from 'Casino' brands from france and should have pretty good bakery still

In fact its still the same baker at pattaya Klang ,best bread in Pattaya ,trouble is at the moment because of covid ,many products are missing from the shelves ,

Didn't I read somewhere that the Casino brands are being phased out?

Well not the people who are not old timers, after all it has been a long time since they left. I  predate the change and to be honest the Carrefour name had been forgotten. Wonder how long I will be using 'Tesco' despite it having been removed from signs. 

They used to have a good meat section at Big C Extra (Klang) but prices seem to have shot up recently.  Buy all my meat now at Makro or Friendship.

The Thais have never called it Tesco though, but Lotud who Tesco bought it from 20+ years ago.

 

So I'll still call it Tesco 20+ years from now.????

Bought an HDTV on big discount there recently. Pretty dead but that's fine by me. Picked up numerous other items too. Had everything I needed. No waiting or lines.

The only real problem is that this scammers now sell Casino frozen pizzas 215 thb !!!

who is stupid enough to buy frozen pizza at higher prices than the fresh ones at restaurants ?!
