Popular Post webfact
Picture: Channel 7 Channel 7 quoted the chief of the Koh Samui tourism promotion association as saying that the three islands of Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao were ready to join the grand reopening of Thailand to foreign tourism slated for 15th July. Everyone was encouraged by the start of the campaign that kicked off amid much fanfare with the Phuket Sandbox on Thursday. Ratchaporn Phoonsawat said that more than 70% of foreigners, migrant workers and local Thais on Samui had been vaccinated already and that the figure was nearly that high spread across the three islands. He said that meetings of state and private sector entities had all taken place discussing all the relevant matters. Then he went on a Samui promotion-fest. "The weather is great now," he enthused, "and the sea is beautiful as everyone knows. "We must be great hosts and impress the foreigners", he said noting that they were getting more and more inquiries. He also sounded a note of caution for everyone on the island to follow all the Covid health protocols and not let down their guard so that they could go forward and improve the economy together. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-07-03 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 1 1

racket
"Ready", but this doesn't necessarily mean they will reopen July 15th. The prime minister has stated that the country will begin re-opening in October. And how can they possibly regard the Sandbox as a success when it just started 3 days ago? With all the requirements in place, it's way too complicated to enter. Let alone, expensive with most requirements in place. Most of Europe is back to normal without any mask mandates whatsoever; many of my friends are already booked to the Mediterranean, so I see very little chance these people will change up their minds at this point. Thailands also needs to consider waving its mask-mandates if they want these foreigners to at least relax during their stay without being threatened with hefty fines. Covid-19 did indeed hit Europe and Americas very hard, but they somehow manage to get back to normal much quicker if you ask me. Authorities in Thailand and TAT are lagging when it comes to decision making, they don't communicate wisely nor do they agree on each other. They need to stick with a plan and follow through so people know what the heck is going on.

A good proportion of Thai's here have had two shots of Sinovac, and a lot of foreigners have now had their first shot of AZ (second shot due 19th Sept)
