Hun Sen not setting own limit for staying on as Prime Minister

Featured Replies

Prime Minister Hun Sen said yesterday he has not set a time limit to end his tenure as head of the government, refuting an allegation that he was a dictator. Speaking during the opening ceremony of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign for children and adolescents from 12 to 17-years-old at the Peace Palace yesterday, Mr Hun Sen said he will stay in power indefinitely if people continue to vote for his party.

“Do not say that this government is dictatorial because if it is dictatorial, the people will not be with it,” he said. He then compared his ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) with the Khmer Rouge’s Democratic Kampuchea which led the country from 1975 to 1979, resulting in the killing fields.

“No one is more dictatorial than Pol Pot, but he was in power for only three years, eight months and 20 days, while Hun Sen has been in power for 42 years,” he said, referring to the day since the collapse of the Pol Pot regime four decades ago. Mr Hun Sen, who is also the CPP president, earlier this year marked his 36 years of ruling Cambodia as Prime Minister after he was first elected in 1985. He is 68 years old now.

Dicks here are taking notes!

He makes no attempt to disguise what he is to right thinking people.

He knows they won't swallow it.

This kind of behavior is why at any major international conferences, he and Prayut from Thailand,  as well as a few others are always on the sidelines and ignored by serious world leaders

With no opposition that's a no brainer then.

This is why he is drawn into the orbit of the Chinese, they don't care about human rights and loans are given without any strings attached regarding them.

The Chinese are not going to complain about others behaving in the same way as they themselves.

A despot never knows when to go!
