The kamnan of the Klong Prasong area of Muang district Krabi in the south of Thailand alerted district chief Chaiwut Buathong after a freak storm damaged many houses.

Mostly roof damage was done to 40 houses in just five minutes.

Locals call the storm "Lom Hua Duan" a kind of mini tornado, Daily News reported.

Packing strong winds the storm caught locals by surprise. They said it was the first time in 60 years such a storm had struck the area.

The district chief handed out Red Cross aid packages as the clear-up and relief operation began.
