Top medical professionals, representing Thailand’s main medical organizations, urged the government today (Wednesday) to develop ways to protect medical personnel involved in the care of COVID-19 patients from legal exposure in case of errors in the honest performance of their duties.

 

The call for government action is contained in a joint statement issued by executives of the Ministry of Public Health, the National Vaccine Institute, the National institute for Emergency Medicine Research Institute, the Government Pharmaceutical Organization, the Medical Council of Thailand, the Health Systems Research Institute, Thailand Nursing and Midwifery Council, the Thai Dental Council Thailand, the Medical Association of Thailand and the Medical Technology Council.

 

The statement was read this afternoon by public health permanent secretary Dr. Kiattibhoom Vongrachit, before the media and in the presence of representatives from the medical organizations.

but the ministry is already issuing executive decree and the government is working on an amnesty law, which will cover their backs for covid vax program.

So those "top doctors" are just stooges for the government, to help them push those laws.

It's nothing to do protecting doctors, very much about protecting corrupted politicians.

If they really cared, as they said, they would already give those 750k pfizer jabs. It's already 12 days since they have arrived. Every day counts

 

It is already very difficult and expensive to prosecute a medical malpractice claim against a physician or hospital and the judgements tend to be quite modest in the few cases that are successful. Actual medical practitioners have little to worry about and medical malpractice insurance is available. This is all about amnesty for policymakers.

And  what about the lower echelon of  medics who have followed the dictate of the  "top" Doctors?

The more adamant call for such specific protection suggests or even indicates some dubious decisions/advice was/has been involved  that has left Thailand severely compromised in terms of prudent management of the extended impact of the pandemic which if  revealed in detail could  be found to have abandoned ethical boundaries in favour of ?

It is a positive thing to hear that medics and health care professionals will not be held liable for exposing and publicizing their inability to perform their duties, due to a lack of quality vaccines and poor planning by those entrusted to do so. 

Shield executing doctors, executing nurses and any other executing support staff - no issue with that. 

The legislative rest, further up and in the drivers seat taking all the decisions, should face the music if the music starts to play. 

Doctors should be responsible for what they do and be punished when doing wrong !

So many doctors in EU should be jailed to have followed stupid governments that told them to not treat the symptoms, just wait that people recover or die ! how unacceptable is it ?

I wish that many of the prime ministers or presidents in EU are sent to jail as soon as possible.

 

These organisations are obviously toadying to govt & above.
