Thai PM asked to stop ATK procurement from China’s Lepu Medical Technology

Thailand’s Rural Doctor Society (RDS) is urging Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to stop the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) signing a contract with China’s Lepu Medical Technology, for the supply of 8.5 million antigen test kits (ATKs), which the government plans to distribute free to the public via hospitals.

In its statement, issued today (Thursday), the RDS also urged the GPO to procure only ATKs which meet the quality standards set by the World Health Organization, instead of the cheapest ones.

The GPO is yet to officially announce the winner of the bid to supply the 8.5 million kits, ordered by the National Health Security Office (NHSO).

What 10 000 baht? The normal retail price is between 20-25 usd. I guess they will pay much smaller for them, and where is the bonus?

Going off-shore?

First the virus ...

Then the Sinovac <deleted> vaccine ...

Local produced AstraZenica with production problems ...

Is this AZ from Thailand recognized in EU?

Now ATKs that don't meet quality standards ...

What is this Gov thinking and can they stumble anymore?

AND WHERE IS THE PFIZER?

They then say don't buy your own kits online while there half the price for the same brand the GPO is selling the pharmacies here.

This government is so criminal.

Now there pleading for blanket amnesty.

Send them all to the gallows!

Most affordable COVID-19 rapid diagnostic test now available

UNICEF Supply Division introduces new COVID-19 rapid diagnostic test to supply portfolio at significantly lower cost of existing options.

A young boy has his sample taken from his nose using a swab for COVID-19 testing in Bahri - Shambat Square, Sudan, in March 2021.

The early and accurate detection of COVID-19 is critical to allow countries to trace and control the spread of the virus.

Since the start of the pandemic, labs around the world have been using molecular PCR tests to detect the virus that causes COVID-19. While these provide an almost definitive result, they require laboratory infrastructure and can take several days to return a result.

Rapid diagnostic tests are both cheaper and faster, providing a result within 15 to 30 minutes.

To support countries’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic, UNICEF has introduced a new and record low-cost rapid antigen test for COVID-19 diagnosis into the UNICEF product procurement list.

Approved by the World Health Organization for emergency use on 17 March 2021, the test is the third COVID-19 rapid antigen test now available through the UNICEF Supply Catalogue.

UNICEF and partners worked rapidly with test manufactures to make the product available for procurement at the most affordable price on the market. The new test is now available for $2.55 per test – for comparison, other rapid diagnostic tests for COVID-19 are currently available for $4.00 and $4.20 per test.

Did they ever disclose the price?  I couldn't find anything on the web.

Nothing is transparent here.  Its a big problem.

People need to have some idea of where there tax money is going.

117 bt if you divide the money 1 billion by the amount of tests 8.5 million. Wish more people would read the article instead of commenting.

The problem is the government went for the lowest price not best quality. Stupid when we are talking about tests. False tests will cost you more then what they win on saving by price.

One has to wonder why price is the determining factor, maybe just an excuse as there will be some brown enveloppes passed. So perhaps that is why they use price instead of quality as a deciding factor.

As you could see, I quoted the sum another poster was giving out of the blue.

When it comes to test kits they can be bought for between 2-3 dollar each. If you do an international search you get a figure of the retail price that should be.

Are my calculator from China or is there something wrong with your math?

Indeed the good Dr. isnt thinking like a Junta leader.  One must not think about the good.  There is only one clear objective. image.png.518acb814999ca4b34aab0af13043df0.png

May some read that first to understand what is going on.

I am amazed that the Thai Government has gone for this, what would appear to be a low rate product, after all the mistakes they have already made in the management of the virus.  Could it be true that the Government does not care about it's population, as long as they benefit from the deal?  So, so sad.

Do the math.  1 billion divided by 8.5 million.  About 118 THB each.

Please read my other post, and you will see that I quoted an import price there. What you just done is compare the general international retail price with the lowest possible import price. Not feasible!

The cheapest, the most expensive, it doesn't matter, those in the government making the arrangements and signing the contracts, will go for whichever one makes them more money, personally.
