Phnom Penh. ‘Blackmail’ claimed as reason for pet lion’s escape

Featured Replies

When everyone thought that the story of the pet lion, Hei Man or Dark Mind, had ended with it being returned to the owner, Zhai Xinjiang in early July, another problem arose yesterday when the lion was seen roaming outside in Street 306 in BKK1 yesterday. With the lion seen in a public place, surprised members of the public took pictures and posted on social media.

The owner contacted Khmer Times and alleged that one of his employees who was sacked over fraudulent activity had colluded with current workers and secretly let Hei Man out to blackmail Xinjiang for money.

At around 6:30am on Monday, the lion was photographed immediately after walking out of the gate. Three hours later, at 10am, the former employee who had previously borrowed $4,000 made several calls to Xinjiang and sent messages on Telegram, explaining that he released the lion because Xinjiang did not feed the animal correctly.

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

A lion , even if it is still young , is NO pet .

It should be living in species appropriate conditions .

Not a zoo ... but a reserve .
