cash limit out and into uk?

Featured Replies

I know this was covered recently but the search is hopeless. What are the limits flying out of Thailand and into the UK when you do not have to declare. Pounds and Euros no baht, I thought the limit was out under $10 and into UK 10k pounds, is that right?

Out of Thailand: 15,000 US Dollars or more (or the equivalent).

Into the UK: 10,000 Pounds Sterling or more (or the equivalent).

Be very careful with the UK. 1 pence over and UK Customs can and will seize the cash if they suspect a crime: which could be suspicion of money laundering, for example.

No but if you get pulled for any reason in the UK  and have a lot of cash make sure you have some proof of where it came from as they can still seize it if they have reasonable concerns it is from crime proceeds.....

Proof could just be copies of bank withdrawals/exchange booth conversions etc.

Yes. There is a good primer here:

They can actually sieze any amount over £900 if you can't show how you came about having that cash.  I believe a withdrawal slip from your Thai bank would be sufficient - I can't think of any jurisduction the UK authorities would have that would allow them to demand to know how you got that money in Thailand.  However, be prepared, there are various agreements targeting money laundering between countries.

Same for E.U., many think it is 10 000 € stil free  ...No no ! starting 10 000 must be declared ,  9999 is still undeclared , small difference with big consequences .

Always customs ask : "do you have 10 000 or more with you .."  they do NOT ask "do you have more than 10 000 with you.."

A small difference in words  , don't let a little phrase fool you

Look on the Pdf  backside txt about in first part of it , however i do not know if Brexit changed something in this matter ... but the wording is very clear and strict
