BANGKOK, Aug 23 (TNA) – Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin advised freelancers and self-employed people to quickly subscribe to the Social Security Fund within Aug 24 to receive 5,000-baht assistance in return.

The minister said that self-employed people and freelancers could subscribe to the fund in accordance with Section 40 of the Social Security Act to be eligible for the financial aid.

The advice was for freelancers, farmers, fishermen, street vendors, freelance drivers, waiters, restaurant attendants, singers, musicians and night-shift workers.

Just read that this only applies to 16 beneficiary provinces around Bangkok. All the others go away empty-handed, although their bars and entertainments have also been closed since months.

Very possible, as you know things here are rarely done properly.

I've been doing my 'bit' (plz excuse the genital pun) to support freelancers for many years, and have been diligently supporting same during the pandemic (God less em').

Some work day shifts, some night shifts, and the professionals double shifts.

A number of Thai family members have received the Bt5,000 today. Others yet to receive but timing seems dependent on ID number so likely to be in the coming days. Most based in Chonburi but also other areas adjacent to Bangkok.

They'll need more than a bit to get by
