ASEAN NOW News
I have to take medicine daily, as I only have one kidney, so my local Kidney specialist at a hospital in Pattaya prescribed the drugs I should take. This week I ran out of one of these drugs, so just needed a top up. When I went to the hospital I got my medicine for six months which cost THB130, however I was astonished to see they had also charged me THB300 for Physician's evaluation and management services, THB100 for nursing charge and THB100 for other professional charges. For the record I never saw a Physician, and apart from registering at recepition, all a nurse did was walk me 50 metres to the accounts desk. It seems a rip off and although I tried to get these tablets from a pharmacy who did not stock them, why do hospitals try this on?
scubascuba3
they try it on because they get away with it. Lot's of bill padding that's why clinics can be a better option. There must be a way to get repeat prescriptions at a hospital without the padding? BTW you've posted under Aseannow news....

You are lucky , I get charged 400 baht for Physician's evaluation , 200 baht for nursing charge. I have been paying on top of that 2,668 baht for one months supply of tablets , and I have just found exaxctly the same tablets in a large pharmacy for 850 baht for a months supply. Talk about getting ripped off.
Popular Post Peterw42
You may not see a doctor but they are still checking your history and signing off etc. Under 1,000 baht for 6 months supply of prescription medicine doesn't appear to be excessive. How much would a new prescription and supply cost back home (without gov healthcare)

I pay about 1,000 baht a month (not 6 months) for my meds at a pharmacy, compared to back home $10 a month government subsidised. 46 minutes ago, ASEAN NOW News said: It seems a rip off and although I tried to get these tablets from a pharmacy who did not stock them, why do hospitals try this on? In essence you are paying 105 baht per month for your meds, Jesus, that's a 10th of what I am paying, perhaps you don't realise the costs involved of running a hospital. Sounds to me like we found a winner, that was misspelt on purpose. Edited September 2, 2021 by 4MyEgo
Popular Post ezzra
So you were "ripped off" for total of 500 baht for 6 months supply of meds? poor man, i move to start a charity to collect the amount he thought they ripped him off. Buddy, anywhere else on the planet you will not be able to set foot in a clinic for that amount, let alone what you have got for that measly sum of 500 baht... Popular Post sanuk711
Your very best option is a Government Hospital---yes there is a wait the first time, then just a quick check by the doctor--show him/her what you have been prescribed, after that you do not have to see them, just renew scrip. Been doing that for 15 years--there is no where cheaper then Gov Hospital..

Sheryl
What us the name of the medication? Possible that it can be bought at a pharmacy without prescription.
shdmn
This has been my experience pretty much every time I go see a doctor anywhere for any reason. They try sell you a bunch of drugs you don't need at rip off prices. That's how they make a lot of their money I guess. Best thing is to try turn the game around on them. Try get a list of the drugs they want to sell you and then make some excuse like you need to get some money out of a cash machine or whatever then head straight to the nearest green cross pharmacy. Usually it's just one or two drugs you need so just get those if you know which they are, otherwise you have to consult Dr. Google.
