Daily News published the latest statistics on flights in Thai airspace handled by the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand.

The total number was 18,151.

This was made up of 5,978 international flights, 4,159 domestic, 2,546 just passing through Thai airspace and 5,468 military and governmental flights.

The organisation noted that a domestic flight ban was introduced in deep red Covid-19 infection zones from July 21st. (This is now being eased).

Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok handled the most flights with 6,768.

Here are the rest:

Don Muang 2,390

Phuket 840

Nakon Sri Thammarat 564

How many of those international flights were just flights arriving and delivering commerce or international mail such as UPS, DHL, and or FedEx.  I really doubt that all 5,978 were bringing in passengers.  That would mean very few actual travelers on-board each flight.  Would also be nice to know how many arrivals were from International destinations without double counting then as they arrived in Bangkok and then flew to Phuket, unless of course they were just in transit then of course they should have been counted just once. The 3 weeks of domestic flights at the other airports listed seems possible, but then again how many going into Don Muang, Chiang Mai, and Nakhon Si Thammarat were carrying just commerce as well.  Just questions that the OP begs to have answered from my view.

I find that number staggering compared to the number of planes I seem see, living on what I always thought was a common flightpath into the airport. 200 + a day?? One every three minutes??

If you blink you miss them.

Why would there be a need for 5,468 military and governmental flights?

Of the commercial passenger variety, you'll find that all incoming int'l flights are 75-80% empty.

A bit deceiving -

Esp considering the Cabinet ministers took commercial flights to the Sandbox...and got infected! Lots of heli traffic in Bangna but few planes.
