BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister will be paying a visit to Samut Prakan tomorrow to inspect the flood situation, during which he will be having a discussion with related agencies to follow up on the flood response plan.

The Government Spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana has announced that Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha will be leading a group of government officials on a visit to Samut Prakan province on Sunday to inspect the current flooding and response.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will meet local officials including the provincial governors, the secretary general of the Office of the National Water Resources, and governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, to discuss water management and flood responses in the Samut Prakan area.

The Prime Minister will be following up on assistance operations for affected villagers and businesses, in order to improve such operations in order to best alleviate the hardships faced by villagers and local businesses caught up in the disaster.

He has ordered related agencies to actively help villagers in flood-hit areas, and to have their situation response plan well prepared, including the readiness of personnel and equipment, for any flood and landslide response operations this rainy season.

The Prime Minister will also be inspecting the elevated canal at Suvarnabhumi pumping station in Samut Prakan, where he will be observing the preparedness of the flood response plan for the lower Chao Phraya River Basin area.

Instigated by His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the overpass was officially opened in 2010, serving as Thailand’s biggest drainage canal bridge, essentially an overpass for drainage water.

The Prime Minister will also be visiting Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute in the Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan to observe the hospital’s COVID-19 vaccination service.
