Electoral change lights fuse for political explosion in Thai Parliament and government

An early general election has become more likely after Parliament voted on Friday (September 10) to approve a charter amendment bill that restores the two-ballot election system and alters the House of Representatives composition – changes expected to benefit larger parties in the next national vote.

However, the bill may need to clear another hurdle before being implemented. Parliamentarians can ask the Constitutional Court whether the amendment or subsequent rewriting of the relevant organic law violates the charter.

The amendment bill, proposed by the coalition Democrat Party, seeks to revive the two-ballot election system used under the 1997 Constitution and to change the number of constituency MPs and party-list MPs in the 500-member Lower House to 400 and 100, respectively.

A nuclear bomb of change is required to blast through the debris of this government. Massive changes are needed, to prevent Thailand from losing it's place and slipping into a relative stone age.

The economy here is decimated. Great minds are needed to bring the country back from the abyss. There are no great minds currently, in any leadership positions. Only very small, failed men.

I would agree, the only caveat being they have certainly failed the nation......but they certainly haven't failed themselves.

Their wealth must be eye-watering

Painting the usual rosy picture, Mike.

And you're still here for whatever reasons.

Mike is in Thailand  because there are no hurricanes to watch out for or tornadoes.

Besides the4 USA is still having over 1500 people dying of COVID each day.  It is still

fighting for what ever freedoms the red neck anti vaxxers are fighting for.  Thailand at least

is more entertaining, and has many less people dying. Don't forget that in the USA

there are a lot of people who are also dying from drugs, or thieves, or gun deaths as well.

I would live in Thailand if I was not so invested in my country. COVID numbers are spiking here

again, and masks are required in all public spaces.  I can hardly wait for 2022 to arrive and hopefully

more hope for a better future.

Very lame. Nearly every time I see someone complaining, or observing a shortfall within Thailand, some lame guy, who has not taken the time to think things through, nor to devote any focus or effort to a reasonable reply, says something like "Perhaps Thailand is not for you", or maybe you should leave, or the top prize, "if you do not like it here, go back to your own country", or "you are still here for some reason". Hard to even respond to such statements. Why? Because I have some issues with the place?

Sorry to inform you, but the nature of a discerning mind, is to have issues. Though absolute contentment must be a beautiful state of mind, it is not something most of us are blessed with, in case you have not noticed. The fact that I complain, does not mean I do not love Thailand, nor most of it's people. I do. It is the leaders that I have an issue with, and the toxic government.

I love my life here. I have a very good life here. But, I do have some complaints, and there are some things I would love to see improved. I should leave because of that? Please. Next time you make a post, try to devote at least two moments of thought to it.

Thank you. A voice of reason. I do agree about the US going downhill. And I do agree what despite the spectacularly toxic regime here, life is still better than back there. It is also about not wanting to be around uber feminist women, who have rejected the best quality they have, and that is femininity. That is such a turnoff. Getting a sweet smile from a lovely young waitress here can be such a thrill, even though it is innocent, it is heartfelt and kind. In the US I am treated like a 90 year old with leprosy, by anyone who is younger and attractive. I do not have to worry about violence here, and in the US there are alot of maniacs willing to take a life for nothing. I do not have to deal with bitter, sour, disenfranchised people, and a cost of living that makes no sense on any level. I could go on and on and on, but I will spare you all.
