Traders selling seafood at the popular Bang Saen beach resort in Chonburi complained that people were bringing their own picnics and buying seafood before they arrived.

 

The traders spoke with one voice according to Thai media that people were finally coming to the beach again, but they sure were not buying very much from them.

 

The very Thai resort had plenty of families, couples and groups of young friends on the beach for the long weekend. 

 

The local authority Saen Suk had the protocols in place and the "tessakit" were touring to make sure no alcohol was consumed. 

 

But large Thai families in particular were watching their baht.

 

It was understandable, said the traders who asked for their custom saying their wares were set price from the authority, uniform in price and reasonably priced.

so they are complaining that they can't rip as many families off as they use to.

So you operate price fixing which flies in the face of fair competition then blame the authorities for your stupidity, authorities are capping your prices in an attempt to stop you ripping customers off but doesn't stop you reducing prices, the people are now wise to it

Obviously other outside visitors think otherwise regarding the prices of seafood from the local traders

Not necessarily, prices might be good value for the products but still too much for the families. People have been hit hard so spending power is less. Does not mean they think the prices are too expensive for the stuff they get just too much given the money they have now.

Depends a bit what they bought of course if its the same product but from somewhere else then your right. But bringing their own picnic is definitely not the same and seafood before they come might be the same or not.

 

I will be honest i have no clue what prices they charge, or what prices they charge elsewhere. But I think the main problem is not the high prices but the limited spending power.

Reasonably priced out of reach, Thais are thrifty.

How they must be missing the green cash cows from overseas.

And very important is to underline that the booze patral assures that no alcohol has been consumed on the beach, as it contains at least 5% of WuFlu. F***tards.

Domestic tourists only have so much money. The international tourists will bring in new money

to Thailand if and when they return.  People have to be budget minded or they will be completely broke.

Not unreasonable to think that little reason went to the price then.

 

Perhaps not having or lot fewer farang patrons (ATM) readily handy to fleece for large thai family meals also a factor!
