Thailand- New Zealand MOU, boosting educational cooperation

The Ministries of Education of Thailand and New Zealand have together signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen educational cooperation between two countries.

Thailand’s permanent secretary of education, Mrs. Charuaypon Torranin (จรวยพร ธรณินทร์), and New Zealand’s secretary of education, Mr. Karen Seawell, has reportedly signed a MOU aimed to boost educational cooperation in various areas, including e-learning, distance learning: DLTV, and language training. The MOU ceremony is witnessed by New Zealand’s Ambassador to Thailand and educational personnel of two countries.

Thailand and New Zealand have an educational close tie, reporting some of Thai students have chosen to continue its study in New Zealand due to its high potential of education. In addition, the two countries have exchanged theirs educational personnel among each other.

There is a serious problem with one or two of the returnee programs from New Zealand, however- a number of Thai students being sent there have failed to earn a degree there OR anything which would help them earn an equivalency here. It is not every program, but there are enough to be concerned. Of course, there may be a self-fulfilling quality to the students who are selected for those particular programs, so the matter may require more investigation.
