Hashtags about the outage of Facebook and Instagram last night were top-trending on Twitter in Thailand shortly after the social media giant became inaccessible.

Frustrated Thai netizens reportedly flocked to Twitter to report the outage of Facebook, Instagram and then the messenger app. According to one, the disruption started at 10.30pm Thai time. Others tweeted that the outage had nothing to do with connectivity.

About an hour after going offline, Facebook issued an apology for the disruption and said that they were trying to fix the problem which, according to some experts, was attributable to its domain name system (DNS).

I just uninstalled Facebook off my mobile it always gave me hassles so fixed it permanently

Oh wow, how interesting.

Easy to understand. They probably had a near death experience.

We know society is near the brink, when a social media app drives people to near insanity. Sometimes, when on the BTS, it is hard to find someone who is NOT on their phone. Have we lost the ability as a society to function normally, without a smart phone? And if so, what does that say about us?

I have seen good documentaries on social media, and most of the founders talk about how disciplined they are with their kids, when it comes to the amount of time per day they are allowed to use their phones, and devices. It is pernicious. The Social Dilemma is highly recommended viewing.

The more we learn about the insidiousness that underlies social media in the new documentary "The Social Dilemma," the more it seems like the film is bringing a sling shot to a nuclear war. What we learn in this movie is that our brains are being manipulated and even rewired by algorithms that are designed to get our attention and make us buy things, including buying into distorted ideas about the world, ourselves, and each other.

I think the saddest issue with social media is how it affects kids, the peer pressure, the bullying, the suicides, issues that don’t surface until too late???? But big tech don’t care as they haul in $billions and exploit teens and adding social pressure on them that in most cases parents don’t know about????Guys like Jack Dorsey don’t care as long as he keeps getting richer????????????
