webfact
By Panithan Onthaworn The Thai government on Tuesday approved relief packages for taxi drivers and motorcycle-taxi riders over 65 in 29 provinces impacted by Covid-19, who are not eligible for aid under the Social Security Act because of their age. The assistance includes a monthly cash handout of 5,000 baht for 12,918 taxi drivers and 3,776 motorcycle taxi riders, under the cap of a 167-million-baht budget, said the government’s spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana. Those who live in 13 provinces first designated as controlled areas will be entitled for two rounds of handouts, while the rest will only get one. Popular Post Gold Star
Before arriving at the place for the drivers to pick up the cash just around the corner, they must first drive 10 kms, stopping by 2 tailor shops, a massage place, and several nightclubs. 1
Popular Post tonray
There's a guy up here in Nonthaburi at the Talad Bang Yai MRT taxi queue must be close to 80. Nicest personality just laughs all the time. A couple of scary rides home as sometimes he forgets my turnoff or almost rear ends the vehicle in front of us but he laughs it all off. I must say the guys up here have been fantastic compared to tourist area cabbies in BKK. Nicest bunch of drivers you could imagine. Would be nice to see him get a little extra.

Similar in my neck-of-the-woods, I have a couple of elderly riders who are great, always polite and smiling. I hope one of them gets the assistance so he can afford to get his cataract done... turning left is fine, turning right is iffy. 1
ronster
Why are they getting 5000bht when average citizens were getting around 3000 or nothing basically? I wouldn’t imagine a taxi driver over 65 would need the money more than a 40 something year old with a wife and kids . Obviously the taxi driver union ???? has had input into this .

An older guy might be the only earner in an extended family. 3
