People in the provinces of Battambang, Pursat and Ratanakiri have been told to brace for flooding again due to incessant rains and the water rising to dangerous levels in the Sangke and Pursat rivers. Authorities in these provinces have already initiated their preparedness plan if a need arises to rescue people from low-lying and submerged areas.

People in Battambang city, Bavel, Ek Phnom and Rohka Kiri are already bracing for the worse scenario with flash floods that has hit the roads and Beong Chhouk market. Battambang city governor Pheng Sethy said yesterday that if the water level rises at the Sangke river with the continuous heavy rain, then there will be serious flooding.

“We are just hoping that the rain will stop. If it does not, then the people in some of the flood-prone areas are going to suffer,” he said, adding that those residing in five communes, namely Wat Kor, Preach Sdach, Svay Por, Rattanak and Slaket should be prepared to face flooding at their houses.
