A Thai man grabbed an old man as a hostage at a Charoen Krung area hotel in Bang Rak, Bangkok. The situation was eventually resolved as 191 police used a taser.

Yannawa police were informed yesterday at 11 am of an incident in Chareon Krung Soi 44 at three shophouses used as a hotel.

On the fourth floor a 35 year old man was using a 6 inch knife to hold a 70 year old man.

The pair moved downstairs after negotiations but the younger man still held the older one in a headlock with the knife to his throat as they exited the hotel.

Then the taser was used 20 meters from the hotel entrance. The older man was unharmed, reported Sanook.

A man named only as "A" said that the assailant was his grandson.

The grandson had been out of prison for a month. He was in for theft and still had no work on release.

Two days ago the grandson had left home saying he was going looking for his girlfriend. They lost contact until it was discovered he was staying in a room at the hotel for 600 baht a night.

He didn't know why he had taken the other man hostage.

Both assailant and victim were taken to Lertsin Hospital. Later the media reported that metropolitan police commander Pol Lt-Gen Samran Nuanma went to the Yannawa police himself to find out what was going on.

Back in the monkey house and will probably relapse once released again.

You can't release criminals who clearly suffer from mental troubles and not have strict follow up protocols put in place. I know, no budget and no one seems to care...

And there are way too many other things that need attention as well in Thailand. It keeps piling up and the whole system is bound to collapse one day.
