Kandal Provincial Governor Kong Sophorn dispatched a team of experts today to look into allegations that two local enterprises were dredging sand from roughly 10 hectares of Boeng Trea lake to sell to building companies.

Major Kim Visal, Kandal Stung district police officer, told Khmer Times today that the provincial relevant specialists were dispatched to check the lake region following several complaints from villagers who feared the two businesses had excavated deep pits that would endanger them.

He mentioned that two youngsters in Trea village recently drowned after falling into a deep pit near their homes.
