Influx of illegal immigrants to Thailand prompts COVID concerns

This handout photo from the Royal Thai Army taken in late April 2021 and released on May 3, 2021 shows military personnel detaining illegal immigrants in an undisclosed location near the border areas between Thailand and neighbouring countries

Thai authorities have been asked to increase field checks on factories and businesses, to make sure that they hire properly registered and fully vaccinated migrant workers from neighbouring countries, to prevent a new outbreak of COVID-19, similar to that in Samut Sakhon last December.

According to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), 3,833 illegal immigrants from Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia – most of whom from Myanmar and Cambodia – were arrested by Thai authorities between November 1st and 7th. On November 2nd alone, 1,194 were arrested. No figures are available on the number of those who managed to evade arrest.

Most migrant workers reportedly paid Thai and neighbouring human trafficking gangs several thousands of baht each to help them sneak into Thailand, via natural border crossings, to find jobs in various provinces, among them Bangkok, Samut Sakhon and Chiang Mai.

I hear the UK Kent council are sending dinghies for the river crossing

If you can stop the back handers, you will stop the migrant crossings...

From the reports that then government is letting the press release, there have been zero migrants/refugees reported to have had Covid.

Not sure where the problem is.

Hard to get the economy back on track without slave labor.

Even the tourism sector requires illegal immigrants.

The flow and source of spread continues even the illegal migrants don't want to go through the C.O.E. or Thailand Pass as it is called now?????

Only worried about Covid.

Not worried about illegal people trafficking or companies hiring illegal workers?

Thailand is an utter disgrace.

Jail the employers and it will stop overnight.

"Most migrant workers reportedly paid Thai and neighbouring human trafficking gangs several thousands of baht each to help them sneak into Thailand,"

So that's a new title for the police and immigration then?

There has definitely been a sharp increase in the numbers of Migrants that ha been caught since the announcement of the Country opening .

Thai business owners of both large and small operations are needing what they see as additional staff to cope with the massive inflow of Tourists.

When the reality hits home, many of these Illegals will just be left on the side of the Road, as before when Covid hit the Country hard.

For reference (again) from the Cambodian Press regarding migrants (7th November 2021):-

Five from Cambodia tested positive for COVID-19 in Thailand even as hundreds get deported

Maybe the Thai Authorities are suppressing such information within LOS so as not to upset their re-opening plans???

Not for river crossing but for use by the immigrants to paddle to the UK. I understand Priti Patel has prepaid the Suez Canal transit.
