webfact
Picture: Daily News It was only a matter of time before RTP chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk's much heralded "Smart Safety Zone 4.0" came up trumps. Daily News reported that the technology in the trialling zone in Chiang Mai did the trick. It was only five hours after a tourist had their Nokia D5300 stolen from the Tha Pae gate area before the thief was in custody. He was a TaiYai hillstribesman called Jai Lung-ong, aged 30, nabbed after taking public transport to Doi Saket. Lt-Col Manatchai Inthewan, deputy chief of the Muang district police, said that cameras used in the safety zone had helped track down the miscreant. He warned criminals that in Chiang Mai the police would catch you so beware. This came after reports in the Thai media that hi-so's, politicians and civil servants were boozing and partying at a bar contrary to Covid rules right under the noses of the police. Suwat launched the Safety Zones in around 15 pilot areas nationwide a couple of months ago amid much fanfare and hype. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-11-15 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates Get your business in front of millions of customers who read ASEAN NOW with an interest in Thailand every month - email [email protected] for more information

unblocktheplanet
Way too much abuse in widespread surveillance. Good policing & deëscalation are far more effective tools against real crime, not dissidents.
