BANGKOK (NNT) - The Department of Industrial Promotion has introduced new measures to assist flood-hit villagers and affected businesses. Assistance will be offered to cover both the maintenance of facilities and in the form of financial support.

The Department of Industrial Promotion’s Director-General Nattapol Rangsitpol said the department’s survey shows some 700 businesses have been affected by this year’s flood disaster, with the majority being small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and community enterprises.

Affected business owners in this survey have expressed their need for assistance in four aspects - financial support, loan deferment, raw material support, and maintenance and upgrade of machinery.

From these demands, the department has introduced two new measures to help affected businesses, starting with the urgent dispatch of engineers and technicians to help repair and renovate affected workplaces and equipment, along with the delivery of disaster supplies.

Other measures introduced will focus more on business recovery, including a 20 million baht financial support, business consultation, assessment by experts, an enhancement to logistics performance and management, raw material sourcing, inventory management, and client contracting.

The department is also aimed at setting up occupational workshops for affected villagers, to help enhance their potential and capacity.

More information on the department’s new measures can be found on its website www.diprom.go.th, or by calling 0 2430 6860.
