Thailand on Wednesday (November 17) reported 6,524 new COVID-19 cases, 7,191 recoveries and 56 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

▶︎ Infections outside prisons: 6,131. Prisons: 393

▶︎ Recoveries: 7,191

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 2,008,361

▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 1,898,217

Wednesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,037,224 with 20,199 deaths.

The news comes as sSeveral parents have complained about the costs of weekly antigen COVID-19 tests required by many private schools, even though it is not a requirement by the Education Ministry.

The ministry has clarified that it does not require students to be subject to antigen tests for COVID-19 on a weekly basis, and that such tests are required only when there are infections at school or nearby communities, following many parents’ demand to the ministry to cover the expenses for the antigen test kits (ATKs).

Instead of allocating a budget to pay for these tests the government now says they are only necessary when there is an outbreak? How about having the tests weekly and finding out about any potential outbreak before it happens, could save some unnecessary school closures

I understand the difficulties and cost but once again we see reactive rather than proactive policy. It is a known fact that Delta spreads very, very rapidly. So what to do? Wait for an outbreak. This may be a reasonable thing to do IF vaccination levels support this approach. They don't.

New South Wales approach.

"Students will be given rapid antigen tests to take twice a week at home to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in classrooms, and those who are close contacts of a case can use them to reduce the length of their isolation under a plan to reduce disruption to schools.

The tests will be trialled in hard-hit Albury in southern NSW from next week, where almost every school has been forced to shut due to a COVID-19 case in the past two weeks. Some have been shut twice. Across NSW, more than 40 schools have shut since Sunday."

Kinda heading in the right direction.  Especially if you compare to a month ago or 2.

Sure. It's trending down. I wonder though if testing is trending down at the same time.

They have never ever gotten out and ahead of anything covid related here. The answer is to wait, then bubble and seal it or close it and never report on it again.  It is sad especially now that they have opened schools and tourism. I applaud the wanting  to appear in control however it's not being honest.

What do you expect from Thailand, no money to be made with ATK unlike PCR and one night in hotel. They view the ATK sufficient for Thai population but not foreigners. TIT
