Thai Air Asia will fly to Cambodia next after Maldives as no quarantine is required

Featured Replies

After almost two years, Thai Air Asia  will seek to resume flights to international destinations that have the same entry basis as the Maldives to guarantee consistent demand from both sides, such as Cambodia which could be the next destination. Thai Air Asia’s first international flight will be to the  Maldives on Dec 22 as the country requires no quarantine and visa.

The airline from now on will have to seek only international destinations that have the same entry basis as the Maldives to guarantee consistent demand from both sides, such as Cambodia which could be the next destination for the airline.

Thai AirAsia (TAA) predicts full recovery for Thai tourism in the next two years as international borders will gradually be opened by next year, while passenger traffic has yet to resume despite the country’s reopening on Nov 1.

guarantee consistent demand from both sides,

Told a Thai I was dating that I'll take her on holiday to Cambodia.

You should have seen her face.

Wish I took a photo as I never saw her face again.

Yes, both sides as in Thailand and Cambodia, thailand and the Maldives.

Would be good if they paid out their refunds before expanding to more loss making routes.

And who wants to fly on a bankrupt airline.

The 2 sides referred to are Thailand and Cambodia

Maldives referenced only in terms of "same entry basis as the Maldives".

That said I would not describe Thailand and Cambodia as likely to generate same demand or having same entry basis as the Maldives. Cambodia yes, much the same. But Thailand's requirements are much more convoluted and demanding (24 hour quarantine on arrival even if fully vaccinated, pre-payment of a hotel for this quarantine, insurance etc and need for a special "pass" that must be obtained form an online site that is far from user-friendly.)

Pre-COVID there were at least 7 flights a day between Bkk and PP and they were usually full, mostly with Cambodians -- especially the Air Asia flights. Short trips to Bangkok were very popular with middle and upper class Khmer for purposes of shopping and medical care etc. There is huge pent up demand among Khmers to travel to Thailand agin for these reasons but the current Thai requirements are a significant barrier for most of them.
