Over three quarters (77.3%) of people surveyed in a recent poll, conducted by Bangkok Poll, said that they will not take part the Loy Krathong festival today (Friday), citing COVID-19 concerns. 74.4% said they are also worried that the annual festival will result in new infection clusters.

 

In a poll, conducted between November 15th and 17th among 1,184 people across the country and released today, it has been found that the pandemic, which has wreaked havoc since early last year, remains a major concern and significant factor preventing people from going out to crowded places, despite the easing of restrictions. 61.1% of the people polled said they may opt to float their Krathongs on nearby canals to avoid the crowds.

 

The “new normal” lifestyle means that 8.5% of those surveyed said they will celebrate the occasion “online”, while 22% said they no longer attach any importance to the festival, which has been observed for centuries. 71.8% also believe the fun aspects of the festival will be reduced due to the pandemic.

Thai people are like cats, if they are not sleeping or eating, they just want to have fun.  So does anyone really believe they carefully consider all the options in a poll to make a thoughtful response?

 

I bet the first response was the one about being scared of COVID.

 

The popular Kratong launch places will be busy as usual, and in any year 60% must head to the local klong anyway.

My gf owns i hairsalon ,all day and afternoon fully booked.Because  of loy kratong she said.

It's a bit of true and false...

My neighbours have said they will not bother with Loy Krathong this year, today Friday extended family are traveling from different locations for a large house party.

Food and drink will be the order over the whole weekend.

Prayuts plan of no gatherings causing clusters has back-fired.

I wish they conducted more useful polls ....

 

99% of people lauching their kratong floats will forget a lighter

 

40% will travel by motorbike, losing all the flowers and the candle on the journey

 

45% of the floats will be bombed by kids on the bridge before they get 10 feet from the launch point

 

99% of people under 25 and 30% of people over 25 will have sex tonight.

 

Now that would be more valuable than endless pandemic fear mongering.

 

 

I had a look at my socual media accounts today expecting to see them packed with photos of thais sending off their little good luck boats.

 

I was surprised to see just a few pics from last night.

This signals the end of Thai culture and heritage.

So many people all over the world, still feel the need to gather in groups and then wonder

why they feel sick a week later. Whether it is Loy Krathong, or some sports game, these people

just cannot get by in life without having to go to some group activity.

  I guess that is their valuable freedom, that I keep hearing about.  So when the 5th wave

of COVID hits after Loy Krathong, and other events, we will all get to hear of many people getting

sick, and some dying for their involvement.

95% of people don't even notice they had COVID, so why should they care?

Local temple packed. Masks up, down and chin warming. Shoulder to shoulder walking. Alcohol being consumed on the edges. Super spreading situation for sure.

So for people like BritManToo, you must be less than 50 year old.  I have

a relative who is in his 30s and was not going to get jabbed,

until his boss said, the jab or the road.  Many bosses have no sense of homor.

  I am over 70 and have had 2 jabs, but have been sick over a week now so

had the PCR test today to see if I have COVID or not.
