Hi, I have been married to a Thai and for the past 12 years have been either on a spouse visa or work permit. My current visa expires 15 June (wp) and I am applying for another spouse visa. I am aware of the new requirements but also am aware that they can be bent, my friend just appiled for renewal, did not meet the requirements and was told by the IO to get 400k in the bank somehow and come back in 30 days. I had 250k transferred from UK 2 months ago if I get another 150k, will this be enough.

Also in the event I do not meet their requirements, what are my alternatives?

Wondering if anyone else had encountered rule bending. This was at Suan Plu btw

It seems your friend was renewing an extension based on a Thai Wife so he was eligable for the 400,000 in the bank rule.

I suspect that you being a new aplicant are not entitled to this and would need a monthly income of 40,000 Baht.

Wait for others more expert than me to chip in.

The 400k is for those already using that system last year and the 3 month in system is not normally required yet for those (as many are not aware of the requirement), so believe that is probably what happened. You can ask on the basis of doing before; but a similar poster was refused in an earlier report on forum. I believe they will look at only the last extension of stay and as it was not based on 400k they will disallow its use.

If you can not meet the 40k family income (wife/you/together) then the alternative (if no employment/school) is non immigrant O visa entry and currently Singapore will issue a multi entry type valid for one year (90 day visits) if you show marriage certificate (copy of spouse ID card also good to have) and a bank account somewhere with 400k or more in it. KL may or may not issue - but they do not require the bank account information. Other Consulates in the area will likely only issue a single entry (but don't use Cambodia or Burma).
