Popular Post webfact
file photo The chief of Thailand's tourism authority, the TAT, continued his upbeat stance in a report by Bangkok Business News yesterday. Yutthasak Suphasorn said of the country's reopening since November 1st: "It's been good. From November 1st to 28th we had 93,573 arrivals, so that's 100,000 for November. "With 100,000 already from January to October and 300,000 expected in December we will hit 500,000 arrivals this year". The chief admitted this fell short of earlier targets for 600,000 arrivals in the last two months. But he said that the good news was that the emergence of the new Omicron variant had not had any effect yet on arrivals. The only noticeable slowdown was from European countries where the Covid-19 numbers were increasing rapidly and there were lockdown fears. He pointed to a main market being Germany noting that its nationals were coming to Thailand in continuing good numbers. Dude, this variant just started to close things 3 days ago. A little quick to make this statement. Maybe you should have said "Had not YET had any effect yet on Arrivals" Maybe it was a transliteration issue and that's what he meant.

I noticed the word "expected", let's hope the statement is more correct than the expected 5 million tourists that tourism and sports minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn predicted...????

ezzra
One thing is for sure, if the TAT chief will not be "upbeat and sure" who will? and those numbers his throwing around, well let's just say that it is wishful thinking... Time will tell tough...

GrandPapillon
jesus, what are they smoking? ???? 600K tourists in December alone? lucky if they get past 6K that month ???? 1
jojothai
Note the word " arrivals", Not tourists. Presumably do not want to admit the number who are not tourists and wanted to get back as soon as easier quarantine requirements were made. Guess what may happen to the numbers when they have returned and its then mainly tourists.
starky
"We got 93 so that's a 100 and 100 we have had with the 300 that we haven't had yet that's 500" lol . A rare insight into the mystifying world of TAT maths. And as others have so rightly stated arrivals, not many arrivals and even fewer tourists.

Partenavia
Arrivals are ones who had previously booked. Not those who were thinking about it, and have now binned the idea of travelling anywhere.

Stargeezr
Sounds like Germany is having a bad Winter so far, or is it like most places in the world. People have been stuck at home for 2 years and are getting anxious to travel anywhere warmer. I wish I was as optimistic as TAT, but that is impossible as I am much better at math. Good Luck to all the Thai people who are waiting for the international tourist to start arriving, the numbers are still very low. Really.
